WHEN IS THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL FOR 2017/2018?
The last day of school is May 30, 2018

WHERE DO PARENTS AND VISITORS PARK?

Please NEVER park in a reserved parking space as this prevents our staff from getting to work on time. Staff members may leave for an appointment during the day and will need their space to be available when they return. Visitors may park along Kentish Drive in designated sections. Please take notice of the NO PARKING signs to avoid ticketing. Additionally, visitors park on the school grounds located at the corner of West Gate and Kentish. There are two handicap and two visitor parking spaces located on the front row in the West circle drive next to the Cowan crayons.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT WHICH TEACHER HAS BEEN ASSIGNED TO MY CHILD?

Teacher assignments will be posted by the crayon entrance located on the West side of the school just prior to Meet The Teacher Night which will be held on August 17th from 5-7 pm. This is a come and go event. Students will meet their teacher, learn where their classroom is located and bring their school supplies if necessary.

WHERE DO I DROP OFF MY CHILD?
Student morning drop off is located in the North circle drive off of Kentish Drive beginning at 7:00 am. Students should only be dropped off in this circle drive as it is monitored by staff and safety patrol.  Please do not drop students off at the crayon entrance as this is for bus riders only.

WHAT IS THE EARLIEST TIME I CAN DROP OFF MY CHILD?
Cowan's doors are unlocked at 7:00am for students to enter the building and go directly to the dining room. Breakfast is available each morning from 7:05 to 7:30. Students should be in line by 7:25 in order to eat breakfast.

We encourage students to arrive at school by 7:20am to participate in the school wide morning assembly in the dining room. All students MUST be in their classrooms at 7:45am or they will be marked tardy.

WHAT TIME IS DISMISSAL?

Dismissal is at 2:57 for grades Kinder-5th.  Pre-K is dismissed at 2:12 pm. We ask that everyone pick up your student(s) on time each day or find other suitable after school arrangements. If you do find yourself in a situation where you may be late, please notify your child's teacher as soon as possible. Students who are not picked up on time will be brought into the school office where parents (or other emergency contacts) will be called.

WHERE DO I PICK UP MY CHILD AT THE END OF THE DAY?
Kinder will be dismissed along the circle drive located on the WEST side (crayon columns) of the campus. If there are siblings in grades 1st-5th, those students will be dismissed with the Kinder.

1st-5th grade will be dismissed along the North circle drive (entrance off of Kentish Dr.).

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY CHILD IS GOING HOME A DIFFERENT WAY THAN USUAL?
Please send a note with your child informing the teacher of the change. We will not send a child home a different way unless written confirmation is recieved from the parent/guardian.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY CHILD IS ABSENT?
Notify your child's teacher the day your child is absent by phone. Leave a message if the teacher is not available. Send a note within TWO days of their return with the child's first and last name, grade level and the reason for the absence listing ALL dates that the child was absent. Some illnesses do not require care from a doctor and a simple note from the parent will do. If the child is absent more than five days, a note from the doctor will be REQUIRED. If the doctor's note states that the child may return to school when fever free, you must attach a note stating all dates that the child was absent.

Students who do not arrive by 9:30 am AND do not have a doctor's note will be counted as absent. Students that leave after 9:30 am and do not return with a doctor's note within two days will also be counted as a partial day absence documented as an unexcused tardy.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY CHILD HAS A DOCTOR APPOINTMENT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY?
Send a note to the teacher that morning if you will be picking your child up prior to dismissal. Arrive at the office with sufficient time to allow for your child to be called from the classroom and to be checked out by the office staff. Students will not be called to the office until a parent/guardian arrives.

A doctor's note will be required upon their return in order to excuse the time away from school.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I WANT TO VISIT MY CHILD DURING THE SCHOOL DAY?
All visitors MUST check in at the front office and get an official visitors badge. You must have a VALID picture ID. We ask that you visit at assigned lunch times to minimize interruption in the classroom during instruction. If you would like to visit at any other time, we ask that you make prior arrangements with the teacher.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY CHILD FORGETS TO BRING SOMETHING TO SCHOOL?
Always come to the front office. Items must be dropped off by 10 am to guarantee delivery. However, we do try to limit interruptions in the classroom and prefer that children have all necessary supplies before coming to school.

CAN I CALL THE CLASSROOM TO SPEAK WITH THE TEACHER OR MY CHILD?
We want to limit classroom interruptions. You may call the front office at 512-841-2700 and ask to leave a voicemail message. Teachers check their voicemails periodically throughout the day and will call you when it is convenient.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LUNCH?
Menus are sent home at the beginning of each month. Lunch prices, menus and class lunch times can be found by clicking Lunch Information under the Main Menu on this website.
